RAINY DAY BLUES - by Marcia Schechinger

RAINY  DAY  BLUES

by Marcia Schechinger

Rain tapping tempo
on roofs this restless night
winds wild and unrelenting
shriek in heartbreaking cries

Coiled in covers
disturbed, I sit by candlelight
as quilted cotton flowers
lie in gray foreboding piles

What misery a rainy night can bring
when crying skies howl and scream
lathering meadows in hashish mud
spewing flowers and aborting buds

I am not my own person on such a night
when clouds knot the moon strung so tight
and no star is seen to wish upon
for the night is stoned until the dawn

Sluggishly I lay down to rest
with haunting noise and fear in chest
let clarity come with the morning sun
end this night let hell be done
